MODALIZER+ bridges non-DICOM hardware and modern enterprise imaging systems, functioning as a Virtual Acquisition Modality by transforming standard commercial devices into compliant, connected, medical imaging device in accordance with the IHE Scheduled Workflow integration profile Acquisition Modality role.
Rather than requiring dedicated, high-cost imaging hardware with built-in DICOM drivers, MODALIZER+ acts as a software abstraction layer. It handles patient context, workflow integration, image/document capture, and standard network transmission, treating non-standard inputs as fully integrated healthcare imaging modalities.

Hardware Abstraction
Converts off-the-shelf cameras, webcams, TWAIN paper scanners, ophthalmic scopes, and non-DICOM visible-light equipment into standardized imaging nodes without hardware modifications.

Full Modality Workflow Engine
Implements the complete DICOM acquisition lifecycle:

Queries the RIS/PACS via Modality Worklist (MWL) to fetch patient demographics.

Binds patient metadata directly to incoming media/scans.

Emits status updates via Modality Performed Procedure Step (MPPS).

Standardized Output Layer
Converts arbitrary inputs—video streams, PDFs, document scans, JPEGs, and TIFFs—into standard DICOM SOP classes (Secondary Capture, Encapsulated PDF, Visible Light) before pushing directly to PACS via DICOM C-STORE (TLS).
